A Level Physics rewards precision. Small, avoidable mistakes are often the difference between a B and an A.
1. Forgetting Units
Always include units in your final answer — many mark schemes deduct a mark for a numerically correct answer with no unit.
2. Sign Errors in Vectors
Be consistent with your chosen positive direction throughout a whole question, especially in mechanics and electromagnetism problems.
3. Rounding Too Early
Rounding intermediate values before your final answer can introduce enough error to fall outside the accepted range. Keep full precision until the last step.
4. Not Showing Working
Even if your final number is correct, missing working can cost method marks — and if the final answer is wrong, working is often the only way to get partial credit.
5. Misreading Graph Scales
Always double-check the axis units and scale before reading values off a graph.
6. Confusing Similar Formulas
Keep a clear formula sheet and test yourself on which formula applies to which scenario, not just memorizing them in isolation.
7. Poor Time Management
Practice past papers under strict timing so you learn to allocate time proportionally to marks available.
